(Previous Notes)

Mathilde stormed into the kitchen of the inn to call Vaervenshyael out for killing her rat catcher. Tankred tried to smooth things over between the two, but failed miserably (bad Fellowship roll). Vaervenshyael stepped up to speak for herself. She used etiquette and charm to convincingly relate her position and the series of events leading up to the bar room death. Mathilde insisted on a battle with her town's judicial champion in order to quench the ire of her people. Vaervenshyael, with her previous career as a duelist, insisted on representing herself, injured ankle notwithstanding. Mathilde insisted that Gertrude represent the town.  A duel was called to first blood.

Vaervenshyael did not like having her actions called into question and determined to make the fight as brief (and therefore insulting) as possible. She hit Gertrude on her second attack of the first round, and continued on to her third attack out of spite and a bit of Fiend ire. Gertrude missed all opportunities to hit Vaervenshyael in the round. The duel was over almost before it began.

Mathilde chastised her Shield Maiden and immediately expelled the party from town...Gertrude included. The party traveled back to Padua without further event.

There were pyres of the dead burning outside Padua's west gate, as well as other signs of a recent battle. The townsfolk were quick to tell the returning heroes of their victory over the attacking armies of Ubain. The party split up once back in town, and each heard different details wherever they went.

Vaervenshyael returned to the Princep's manor to deliver the power stone. There was staff she did not recognize (and therefore did not trust) who led her to Azmir. Vaervenshyael insisted on delivering the stone in the presence of Prince Ludovic and Master Maximillian, but they were not to be found. Azmir took her to the Bianca to find them.

Ludovic was on the Bianca, composing a song about the recent battle. He cared little about the power stone and dismissively instructed Vaervenshyael to give it to Azmir. Vaervenshyael, having a lot of trust issues lately, insisted to see Maximillian first. Azmir then led her to where he thought the Master of the Horse could be found.
