[WFRP 1e] Doomstones 6

Blood in Darkness ( Previous session ) The party further explored the lower level of the old Dwarf shrine, hoping for a clue through the sealed doors. They were not disappointed when they found an old library housing clues on a ritual to open said doors. The dead ogres from the shrine up above were still fresh enough to bleed onto the altar as required by the ritual, and the bodies made sufficient sandbags for accessing the lowest level of the alter which was otherwise covered in mud. The sealed doors opened, and the party continued through to the final room. The guardian of the shrine, an insane earth elemental, attacked in the last room. Its whipping tentacles bludgeoned the hypnotist and the magic user into retreat (physically and mentally). The remains of the creature were driven off by the fighters. The last room had a pillar, wherein lay the stone. Being warned not to touch the pillar, the group lassoed it, pulled it from the floor (they are rather strong), and...

[WFRP] Doomstones Session 5

Started with the party coming upon the shrine and getting their first view of the ogres. Many Cool checks were failed as they got an idea of what they were up against: ogres. They set up camp off the trail and figured out a plan of approaching the shrine. The human entertainer was shoved out to talk to the ogre guards. He found out they were residents of the shrine and they were hungry (surprise). This gave the halfling, Professor Brambleburr, the opening he needed to get in. He walked up and offered his services as a cook if he could explore the locale in a professional archaeological manner. The ogres loved the idea of a cook and assumed his fancy words meant he wanted to see the shrine. The halfling and a dwarf checked out the shrine finding a large, dark stone on a plinth as well as a random hole in the floor. The halfling then cooked for the two ogre priests. The meal was so good that the ogres allowed him to bring in his friends to explore the complex if he would cook for ...

[WFPR] Doomstones Session 4

There's another Crystal nearby! On the way to town, the party spotted a long-forgotten cache of orc trinkets buried in a mount. There was some jewelry, a dwarven plate with a map on it, and a couple notes from the Bloodaxe alliance detailing the existence of another crystal nearby. The party kept this information and headed to town. In town they sold their hostage for some coin, replenished their travelling stores, and recruited a new Wizard after the previous one left the group. The new Wizard attuned himself to the Crystal of Fire and found one of it's powers: the Fire Ball spell. Having just come down through the mountains, and having a rather familiar knowledge of the area, the party decided to take the easy road back to the location marked on the plate/map. (They skipped the Twisted Lands and the Forest detailed in the book on the journey to the next location.)  Heading into the mountains toward an old "stunty 'ole," they came upon an area litt...

Star Wars RPG 3

We find our heroes after a difficult raid against a secret imperial installation. As rebel commanders realize that military style raids are not this group's forte, a new plan is devised. Upgrades were made to the Golden Goose, seed money handed over, and a new unrelated base of operations on Tatooine provided. After the creation of new IDs, the party set out to establish themselves in their new business, salvage and repair.  The crew of the Golden Goose investigated the town house that had been provided to them and decided to explore a former rebel base in the Jundland wastes that had been destroyed. After a little difficulty finding the front door, the former base was explored. While the womp rats weren't happy about guests, the resident Krayt dragon was even less so, having been rudely awoken from it's slumber by a grenade inserted into it's nostril. Two pearls were retrieved from the innards of the dragon, their value yet to be determined.  A tatooine bus...

[WFRP] Doomstones Session 3

Acqusitions Unlimited Retrieves the Crystal of Fire! Last seen around the Lonely Tower, the group reference the map and decided to follow the river south to the "stonz". Before leaving, the eagle-eyed elf and the ever-curious Professor espied a cave entrance in the distance. They decided to check it out before leaving. The cave was smelly, like a farm and abattoir. While they were inside checking the place out, the inhabitants arrived home and attacked the intruders. The party fought two minotaurs. One had molten metal blood, which sprayed the party when he was damaged. The other had elastic arms that could reach around his companion to attack. The dwarf squire took a powerful clubbing to the head, but all survived the encounter. The only items of value found were paraphernalia off a dead elf. The party traveled through a part of the forest known as the Twisted Lands by the locals. They saw mind-boggling sights, like the gigantic river snake that sprang out of the wate...

[WFRP] Doomstones Session 2

The Reavers' Trail and The Lonely Tower. The party met the halfling merchant and got very little from him but a copy of his map. They were ambushed by some trolls and were in desperate straights until two ogre mercenaries showed up to help out. This encounter is not in the book, but they needed some battle experience and it sets up the ogre caves later in the campaign. They were welcomed into the gypsy camp and spent a lot of money for a 'free' meal and drink. Also, two of the characters left married after being seduced by the young ladies (and men) of the camp. They can crossed the river and explored the tower, finding more clues of the path the orcs took 100 years ago. It is possible for them to have a Doomstone at the end of the next sitting. Oh, and they killed the mama bear at the tower and added her two cubs to the party. One of the PCs has Animal Training. The party now has 14 members, including the bears. Oh, and the prisoner from Crossing the Border . That...

[WFRP] Meet Acquisitions Unlimited!

Image
On the first night of character creation and adventure, my group came up with a party name and logo: The characters, what they may have learned, and what kind of traveling companion may help them: Ryan the Entertainer - Knife Thrower The Oldenhaller Contract adventure may have shown him that it is harder to hit moving targets than it is to hit the kinds of targets he is used to in his performances. His ballistic skill is not bad, but he may profit from a follower who can help him practice. Possibly someone who could also catch (Dex) and throw (BS) his knives elsewhere in a fight. Ex. Entertainer - Knife Thrower, Rat Catcher, Trapper Meliot Took, Halfling Hypnotist (no relation to Pippin) Meliot's first adventure likely showed her that it is difficult to hypnotize someone who is in the midst of battle. It would be much easier to hypnotize a captive. She may profit from a follower who specializes in capturing people unawares, to be saved for later questioning. Ex....

[WFRP] Crossing the Border

The Doomstones campaign is a Warhammer-ized version of a high-fantasy "seek the artifacts of power" type game. It's not a campaign that I think fits particularly well into the Warhammer mythos, but when it was release there wasn't much of a Warhammer mythos to constrain it. The campaign begins with 2nd to 3rd career PCs in a remote area of the Border Princes. Most Warhammer adventures take place within the Empire. A fan (or someone) decided that there needed to be an adventure that bridged the gap between where a group of established players might start out in the Empire to where the Doomstones take place in the Border Princes. Thus Crossing the Border was born. Since I really want to run the Doomstones campaign at a couple local gaming conventions, I thought I'd playtest this Crossing the Border and see what we thought. Here are those thoughts: The adventure is far too easy for 3rd career characters. Basic-level bandits and orcs, while potentially deadly,...
