[D&D 5e] Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden 17

The party left the ice fortress to check out the dead body we heard was frozen in the ice halfway up the island. The body was of Nas. It turned out she was still there in spirit, and she possessed Vael. In Vael’s body, she went after the Codicil that Ylenn had her face stuck in. When Vael couldn’t get to Ylenn, Nas possessed Prax instead. Prax also couldn’t get there, as Ylenn cast Hold Person on him, and the rest of the party dragged him away from Nas’ dead body. After he was far enough away, the spirit had to return to the dead body…which Morgan had burned to a crisp. We got the orb containing Professor Scant from Nas’ dead body. We circled the island, looking for the whale or another good way off. We couldn’t find one. Ylenn said she could summon the whale, if we could just last the night. We made a lean-to to sleep in and keep cover from the roc. As an octopus, Morgan was able to get some sail from a sunken ship to cover our lean-to. He also was able to find a huge treasure che...

[D&D 5e] Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden 16

We traveled to an ice covered island in the sea. We snuck in, using Pass Without Trace to get all around the island's fortress. Downstairs we found a number of rooms, just waiting for us to pass their tests. Once we passed the tests, we should be worthy to take the Codicil of White from the island. Test of Preservation We were attacked by the Wolf King and his minions. A large, talking wolf came to claim the surviving clan member we had been preserving. Test of Cruelty – Bear Tribe Morgan killed a few tribe elders so the tribe could eat for a few days. It saved the tribe king the shame of having to kill the elders himself. Test of Endurance – Elk Tribe We forced-marched with the Elk tribe for many, many hours until they reached a new reindeer herd to hunt. Test of Isolation – Tiger Tribe We were left alone in the Tiger tribe camp while the tribe all went to raid the Elk tribe. It took many, many days. Prax couldn’t stand the monotony and disappeared on us one night. Morgan did the...

[D&D 5e] Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden 15

We killed a chardalan dragon. Other stuff happened, but that was the long and short of it. We got a bunch of pieces of the dragon and were gifted a Bag of Holding by the town of Easthaven.

[D&D 5e] Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden Leaving the Fortress, featuring: “The Charlatain Dragon Tavern” The Grand Olpha allowed us to loot the fortress, if we could defend ourselves. We didn’t think we could do that for long, so we made a rush job. In the king’s war room we found a map of Icewind Dale. There was a track circling the towns starting at Dougan’s Hole and running counterclockwise. It had a small chartalain dragon to mock flying the path. The elf bladesinger took it. In the king’s bedchambers we found a chest at the foot of the bed. Thom the rogue picked the lock. There were a bunch of numbers inside that we never found the meaning of. And there was a poison gas trap. The elf bladesinger. Thom poured a healing potion down the elf’s throat to bring him back to the barest semblance of life. In a closet off the bedroom was a small shrine. There was a chartalain goddess and seven mind flayer skulls. Nobody wanted any of that, so we left. It was also time ...

[D&D 5e] Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden 13

Into the Fortress The druid uses the drift globe for light. The main entry chamber has duergar on the other side of an arrow slit. The elf bladesinger slides his sword through and slits the duergar’s crossbow string. Duergar start coming through a door at the other end of the entry chamber. The dragonborn fighter steps up to cover the doorway. The elf bladesinger starts bladesinging and casts Cloud of Daggers over the duergar backed up behind The dragonborn fighter. Then The rogue puts them all to sleep. More shooting starts back up from the arrow slit. The elf bladesinger plugs the slit with a globe of light to ruin the duegars’ vision. The attackers from the other chamber are taken care of. Exploring the level, we find Grand Olpha Muzgardt and her pet mini chardalean dragon. She invites us to eat intellect devourer with her. It’s hideous. She’s not on Zardarok’s side. She wants the fortress for herself and is on a long term plan to take it over. We help speed up the terms o...
