[D&D 5e] Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden 13

Into the Fortress

The druid uses the drift globe for light. The main entry chamber has duergar on the other side of an arrow slit. The elf bladesinger slides his sword through and slits the duergar’s crossbow string. Duergar start coming through a door at the other end of the entry chamber.

The dragonborn fighter steps up to cover the doorway. The elf bladesinger starts bladesinging and casts Cloud of Daggers over the duergar backed up behind The dragonborn fighter. Then The rogue puts them all to sleep. More shooting starts back up from the arrow slit.

The elf bladesinger plugs the slit with a globe of light to ruin the duegars’ vision. The attackers from the other chamber are taken care of.

Exploring the level, we find Grand Olpha Muzgardt and her pet mini chardalean dragon. She invites us to eat intellect devourer with her. It’s hideous.

She’s not on Zardarok’s side. She wants the fortress for herself and is on a long term plan to take it over. We help speed up the terms of the plan. She summons Zardarok to talk.

We attack and maybe almost die. The duergar with Zardarok have some intense armor. And he can grow to small giant size. The druid summons so bears to help us finish off the dwarves…which was helpful because Zardarok went invisible and only the bears could find him (via their noses).

Notable quotes:

“Hurt circle.” This is what the group has taken to calling the druid's Spike Growth spell.

“Corned beef hash marks.” I was copying the fortress battlemat onto graph paper and using some Dyson hatching.

“Da bears!” Man, those bears saved our bacon.
