[D&D 2e] Stalwart Adventures 1

Zak – Half Elf Thief Wizard (Me)

Thanin – Human Fighter

Ogurdan – Dwarf Priest of Selune

Our desire for adventure took us through the desert to the fortified city of Schabol outside the Barony of Aramax.

One of our first sights was a dwarf being harassed by a tall, muscular human. The dwarf picked himself off the ground, spotted us, and offered to sell us a keep “a ways” outside of town. We were to meet at The Pit later in the day to discuss the offer further.

While waiting, we found a cartographer and bought a map of the area. It contained everything between Schabol and the Great Wall. With our map to peruse, we went to The Pit to get our bearings and await the dwarf.

The Pit ended up being a dwarf bar. Thanin and Zak were the only non-dwarves in sight. Thankfully everyone was hospitable.

Boris had been deeded the keep by his father, but had never had occasion to visit. He wanted to sell the place. He had a map, placing the keep to the east, outside the Great Wall. He told us is was about a fortnight travel.

Boris gave us 6 weeks to ride, check the keep out, and return to tell him if we wanted to buy it from him or not. It cost 50 gold for him holding off from selling to someone else in the next 6 weeks. If we wanted it, we were to return to The Pit and tell Rathgar, the owner, to get word to Boris.

A couple nights out, Thanin heard someone in and among our ponies. She woke everyone up, and we attacked 6 half elves who were helping themselves to our saddle bags.

I killed one with an arrow and magicked another to Sleep. Ogurdan had Entangled the others, while Thanin had trouble wielding her sword in the dark. She did end up killing one before the others gave themselves up.

Thanin argued the merits of a thieving lifestyle with one bandit, while Ogurdan and I decided how to handle our prisoners. In the end, we decided to take their weapons and armor and leave them staked to the ground. One of their party had run off, and he would surely be back to free them. We were going to continue east in the meanwhile.

We came to the Great Wall after 7 days of travel. It was guarded on the west side. They charged per head to let people through. They knew their business, and were not amenable to haggling or smooth talk.

There was a small frontier town on the other side of the Great Wall. We put ourselves up for the night and sold the extra supplies we had confiscated from the bandits.

Continuing our trip, we were ambushed by an Ankheg. I managed to kill the beast with a lucky shot through some vital organs. We wanted to carry some segment plates back to town to sell, but they had some powerfully rotten smells after cutting them off the creature. We left them for possible retrieval upon our return.

The last day of travel, we were jumped by two ogres. Curiously, they wanted to know who our toughest person was. Ogurdan was quick to point to our fighter. I put one ogre to Sleep, while Thanin fought the other. It hardly seemed a fair fight, and Ogurdan was helping Thanin, so I started shooting arrows at it. I was fortunate to hit yet another creature with an arrow, and down it went. It seemed to be an arrow straight through the brute’s heart.

Thanin had less trouble putting a sword through the sleeping ogre. Once that was done, we looked around to find the keep in the distance.
