My PC Vaervenshyael  - Female Elf Duellist My companions Tankred "Silver Bear" Tenneckermann  - Human Veteran Wilhelm Hechland  - Human Pistoleer Doctor  Johann Wilhelm Woeller  - Human Physician Roderick - NPC Priest of Verena Otto - His scribe Friebald - NPC Mercenary working for Tankred Van Duster - NPC Mercenary working for Tankred ( Previous Notes ) Vaervenshyael charged the zombie mass while they were distracted by Van Duster. She pierced and dodged her way through five of the undead, with Tankred and Van taking out the others. With the above ground threat out of the way, she returned underground with Wilhelm and Tankred to find the Slaan skin. All others headed back to Padua with Friebald's quick-spreading Nurglish Rot. The party followed unexplored corridors to the circular center of the megalith. The journey was dangerous but to the mind rather than the body. Vaervenshyael saw carvings and depictions of mutating processes that ra...

[D&D 2e] The Lost Mine of Phandelver 4 *SPOILERS*

Mist:  Human Shadow Walker (Mage/Thief) Jairus:  Elven Mage/Thief Kell:  Human Ravager (Barbarian) Sanaka:  Human Windwalker (Priest) Gunel:  Human Fighter/Gladiator ( Previous notes ) Cragmaw Castle Droop the Goblin wanted to get in good with his new masters. They were interested in finding Cragmaw Castle, and Droop led them straight there. As soon as the party could see the castle through the forest, they stopped. They sent the mage/thieves ahead to scout the perimeter. While circling the perimeter, the two noticed a concealed entrance on the far side of the castle. This entrance was quickly selected as their entry point, over the front and side doors which were heavily guarded. The concealed entrance led to a ruined tower. There was an entryway to the south, covered by a heavy curtain. There was a door to the east and a crumbled ruin of a wall with a small hole at the top to the northeast. The elf mage/thief slipped in through the east doo...

There were new noises coming from behind the northern door, against which a pile of foul-smelling detritus lay. The noises accompanied a scratching, muted by the thick wood of the door and waste pile. Roderick jumped back from the pile, knocking into Johann, who was pushing what looked like a rotted fruit skin—maybe?—off the surface. "Something—don't ask me what it was—was just pulled under the door...," spat Roderick, his eyes wide, and the light shifted as Otto tilted his head to get a better lo...

My PC Vaervenshyael  - Female Elf Duellist My companions Tankred "Silver Bear" Tenneckermann  - Human Veteran Wilhelm Hechland  - Human Pistoleer Doctor  Johann Wilhelm Woeller  - Human Physician ( Previous Notes ) The party entered a large room. There was a statue of the old sheikh, Abdul Al'Shar. The statue opposes a large mural of the Emperor on the wall opposite. There were runes carved below the statue, describing a curse to the Emperor. There was a also a cryptic message "Does the power lie within?" Further on. Another room. There were two tall Nurglings at the bottom of a stair. Vaervenshyael charged, knowing Tankred and the others had her back. She shot her pistols. She missed twice. She drew her rapier and main gauche, hitting a daemon twice in quick succession. The creature died to her blades. On a balcony above the room, a pink bubo and a green bubo cheered and jeered the fight. One escaped, to run away through a door behind the ...

My PC Vaervenshyael  - Female Elf Duellist My companions Tankred "Silver Bear" Tenneckermann  - Human Veteran Wilhelm Hechland  - Human Pistoleer Doctor  Johann Wilhelm Woeller  - Human Physician ( Previous Notes ) Vaervenshyael used the Tooth of Pride to seek the direction of the next talisman. The tooth heated. *flash* There was a room with large statues of frogs, full of riches, gold, gems, wealth. The elf wanted them. Wanted to hold them. *flash* Another room. There were rotting daemons, fighting, laughing. *flash* Another room. A statue. A man with a ranseur. A rotting carpet of maggots. *flash* The elf was rising, up a current of warm air, up through the center of the tower.  "I know which direction we need to go. Down the central shaft." The remainder of the party, afraid of heights after the previous trip to the tower, talked the elf into trying the stairway and searching the passages beyond the room full of dirt. The floor...

The Jerk

I think I was "that guy" at the gaming convention. I attacked other characters, the characters of people sitting right across from me playing D&D. I think I may need to apologize. We were playing a 5e adventure called Smash & Grab. We were to enter a complex to retrieve a magical lamp before other parties could find it. Little did we know what this really meant. The characters we were using were C/N, N, L/N. There were no good characters at our table, and there were no evil characters at our table. I had a C/N tiefling warlock. We found out, through the adventure, that there was another party in the complex, less than an hour ahead of us, that was also after the magic lamp. We set our sights on this party and tried hard to catch up with them. We were pretty sure that they not only wanted to get to the lamp before us but they also had retrieved some items along the way that we needed to fulfill our quest. Well, we did catch up to them, and what happened really su...

Four Very Different D&D 5e Experiences

At SnowCon last weekend, I played four four-hour sessions of D&D 5e. I came away with four completely different experiences. The first game was Death & Taxes , with Edwin Nagy (Lesser Gnome Zach Glazier was also at the convention, but he was wandering around enjoying himself elsewhere in the room). There was a fine balance of exploration and fighting in this session. It was my first 5e session of the con, and I was getting used to playing the edition again. I found my dragonborn cleric rather interesting, and I was also interested in how the other players ran the other characters at the table. We were unable to finish the adventure (it is an entire boxed set), but it got me interested in 5e and interested in maybe purchasing the Death & Taxes boxed set. The second game was called Coming Down the Mountain. We were escorting a caravan through a mountain pass and had to stop for the night in a waystation near the top of the mountain. We were woefully nonproficient and all...
